Abstract

Willemien Roenhorst, The ‘natural’ nation.The monumentalisation and nationalisation
of nature and landscape in the Netherlands in the early 20th century The first part of this article traces the origins and development of the idea of ‘natural heritage’ - the attribution of a monumental status to nature and the landscape - in the Netherlands in the late 19th and early 20th century. Nature and the landscape were not only second part of this article examines the characteristics and the use of the connection between the natural heritage and the nation in the Dutch nature conservation and landscape preservation movement in the early 20th century.
